In Herbie the Love Bug, Jim Douglas says "They make 10,000 cars, they make them exactly the same, and one or two of them turn out to become something special."
In current times, when I go to Bug-ins and see other Bugs driving around, I think there's a different interpretation. They made over 20 million of them over the years, each year would have been many thousands, thus each that was made had thousands exactly the same. Most of those have been scrapped by now, but of those that remain, no two are exactly alike, and each is special as it has a piece of the soul of whoever has maintained, restored, or customized it.

This is a collection of my adventures related to the restoration, maintenance, and customization of my '73 VW Super Beetle. This car, which I've had since 10th grade in High School, is my daily driver, and most of my efforts are to make her more practical for this use. Though I'm not going for any specific "style" of customization, I have little regard for keeping things stock, doing whatever makes sense to me and resulting in something that is truly my own. Things like a custom wood interior and modern fuel injection. My goal here is to show others what I've done, help others interested in doing anything similar (and giving a few warnings about things I learned the hard way...) and maybe even inspire someone.
This site won't feature much in the way of "basic repair" information, as there are plenty of other excellent resources on others' websites and various books - no need to "reinvent the wheel." Instead I have a page linking to those other sites, things I have found helpful or interesting in this adventure that would be of use to someone getting started.
